Summary

The Packaging Manager, reporting directly to the National Head of Post-Harvest, holds a multifaceted role that spans leadership, operational efficiency, and financial optimization within the Production Department. Your primary responsibility is to oversee the production team's day-to-day operations. Your strategic approach involves implementing efficient production procedures, minimizing waste, and ensuring compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Implement cost-effective production strategies without compromising product quality. 
  • Collaborate with product development and marketing teams to align production capabilities with market needs.
  • Manage inventory levels to ensure adequate stock availability for sales demands.
  • Ensure that production consistently meets high-quality standards to maintain customer satisfaction and drive repeat sales. Monitor product quality through stringent quality control measures.
  • Analyze sales data and performance metrics to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure that production activities comply with all regulatory requirements. Support sales efforts by providing necessary compliance documentation and certifications.
  • Positively influence sales by ensuring high-quality packaging so that it aligns with brand standards and resonates with our patients and customers by enhancing product appeal and customer satisfaction.
  • Effectively manage team members’ work schedules to optimize workflows and to ensure that products are readily available to meet market demand, potentially increasing sales and preventing stock shortages
  • Monitor supplies and materials to maintain adequate stock levels and minimize disruptions in production
  • Administer strict quality control measures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards.
  • Ensure a safe and clean work environment by enforcing sanitation protocols and safety measures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including quality control and logistics, to facilitate seamless operations and effective communication across departments.
  • Identify areas for process improvement to enhance production efficiency, reduce costs, and improve overall quality.
  • Oversee the maintenance, calibration, and functionality of machinery and equipment, ensuring optimal performance and safety
  • Transition cannabis plant material through the post-harvest and production processes including dry, cure, trim, and packaging of all flower cannabis products while executing all chain of custody changes which occurs within Viridian Science and METRC.
  • Oversee the proper transition of harvested plants.
  • Monitor status of Dry Room including but not limited to environmental conditions, drying process of marijuana flower, cleanliness and when it transitions to cure, meticulously recording changes in weight from water loss or other known acceptable variables.
  • Monitor status of Cure Room including but not limited to environmental status, curing process of marijuana flower, cleanliness and when it transitions to be bulk packaged in nitrogen flushed bags, meticulously recording changes in weight from water loss or other known acceptable variables.
  • Perform weekly, or as otherwise needed, audits on weights of all cannabis post-harvest until it has been transitioned to be packaged, reporting abnormalities to the Director of Manufacturing.
  • Execute quality control audits of marijuana flower.
  • Coordinate sample collection and schedule for testing lab execution as needed of all products.
  • Serves as a company brand ambassador and trains team members to represent the brand appropriately.
  • Follows and implements the company’s core values including respect, diversity, sustainability, research, and service.

  • Provide leadership and guidance to production team members, setting clear expectations, and fostering a culture of compliance, productivity, and teamwork.
  • Oversee and manage the production team, including hiring, training, scheduling, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions when necessary, ensuring alignment with all Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement training programs to ensure team members are well-versed in production procedures, compliance standards, and equipment operation.
  • Assign tasks and responsibilities to team members based on skill sets, experience, and workload requirements, ensuring equitable distribution and optimal efficiency.
  • Foster a culture of motivation, engagement, and accountability among team members, encouraging collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct regular safety training sessions and enforce safety measures to prevent accidents or violations.
  • Ensure that team members follow company policies, SOPs, safety regulations, and compliance standards, providing guidance and reinforcement as necessary.
  • Identify opportunities for career advancement or skill enhancement for team members, providing support and encouragement for professional growth.

Qualifications and Education

  • Must be 21 years old.
  • College degree highly preferred.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must consent to criminal background check. Employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of the criminal background check.
  • 3 years' minimum of full-scope management experience in large-scale commercial, production, manufacturing, or cultivation environments.
  • Deep knowledge of state-specific cannabis laws and regulatory compliance is non-negotiable.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities effectively, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills are required.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are a must.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to positively influence individuals at all organizational levels.
  • Capability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, manage high-stress situations, and exhibit flexibility and adaptability when necessary.
  • Analytical mindset with a keen attention to detail and a focus on process optimization.
  • High-level competence in utilizing computers and technology, including working with MS Office applications (heavy Excel), and POS applications (ADILAS) required.
  • Effective decision-making skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • Ability to work a minimum of 8 hours a day and rotating shifts;
  • Flexible schedule availability including nights, weekends and holidays;
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull 50 pounds unassisted, 100 pounds assisted;
  • Be familiar with using the assistance of push/pull manual transport equipment (ex: pallet jack, hand truck)
  • Ability to sit, squat, bend, and kneel repetitively throughout a workday;
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time;
  • Ability to remain stationary for around 80% of the time
  • Ability to use a ladder (up to 12 ft. extension) and general hardware tools needed for common repairs;
  • Be comfortable to work with the following:
    • General office environment.
    • Extended computer usage.
    • Extended phone usage including teleconferences, and
    • Work environments that include exposure to, but not limited to, fumes, dust, odors, heights, indoor AC, no AC, motion, and noise.
