Position Summary: 

As an iAnthus Cultivation Manager, you hold a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of cannabis cultivation within our production facility. Your primary responsibility is to manage and lead a team of Cultivation Supervisors, Technicians, and Harvesters, ensuring the successful execution of cultivation operations. You will develop and implement cultivation strategies, including planting schedules, nutrient plans, irrigation systems, and pest management protocols, to optimize plant health, growth, and overall yield. Collaboration with other departments, such as compliance, quality assurance, and operations, is crucial to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, quality standards, and operational efficiency.

Essential Functions: 

Additionally, your role involves creating and maintaining SOPs, monitoring inventory, overseeing the track and trace program, and ensuring compliance with local and state regulations. Your leadership, expertise in cultivation practices, ability to manage resources effectively, and dedication to maintaining high-quality cannabis production will directly contribute to the success and productivity of the cultivation department within the cannabis industry. The following essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

Driving Business + Sales 

  • Align cultivation strategies to meet business goals and sales targets, ensuring adequate inventory availability to support sales initiatives. 

  • Identify and cultivate high-demand strains or products to meet market needs and improve sales potential. 

  • Ensure consistent quality of cannabis products by maintaining strict quality control measures and adherence to cultivation SOPs. 

  • Optimize cultivation processes to improve efficiency and reduce production costs without compromising product quality. 

  • Implement strategies to enhance product quality and differentiate offerings to attract more sales. 

  • Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to forecast and plan cultivation activities based on market demands, product trends, and sales projections. 

  • Work closely with product development teams to introduce new strains or products that align with market demands and consumer preferences. 

  • Implement cost-effective strategies and initiatives to maximize profitability. 

  • Ensure compliance with local regulations and industry standards, collaborating with the Compliance Team to meet legal requirements. 

  • Explore opportunities for business growth, expansion, or partnerships that align with sales objectives and market trends. 

  • Conduct market analysis, monitor industry trends, and gather competitive intelligence to inform cultivation strategies and sales approaches. 

Policies + Procedures + Cultivation Operations 

  • Direct the department's initiatives for cost management and innovative advancements across chemical, fertilizer and media strategies, biological control strategies, growth regulation strategies, development of section growers, troubleshoot crop-related issues, maintenance of meticulous recordkeeping databases, adaptation and utilization of equipment, adherence to safety and compliance standards, and coordination with testing laboratories. 

  • Oversee all aspects of cannabis cultivation, including cloning, transplanting, pruning, feeding, watering, pest control, and harvesting, ensuring efficient and high-quality production. 

  • Monitor plant health, growth, and environmental conditions, identifying and addressing issues to maintain optimal cultivation conditions. 

  • Develop and update cultivation SOPs, ensuring compliance with local and state regulations governing cannabis cultivation. 

  • Ensure adherence to legal and compliance standards, track and trace requirements, and safety protocols. 

  • Implement and maintain rigorous quality control measures to ensure consistent and high-quality cannabis products. 

  • Conduct regular quality checks, oversee packaging processes, and manage inventory levels. 

  • Manage inventory levels, track supplies, and coordinate with procurement to ensure adequate stock availability for cultivation operations. 

  • Optimize supply chain processes to minimize disruptions and maintain efficient operations. 

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to cultivation activities, including plant growth, treatments, inventory, and compliance reports. 

  • Generate reports on cultivation performance, productivity, and compliance metrics for management review. 

  • Oversee the maintenance and sanitation of cultivation areas and equipment to ensure a clean, safe, and efficient working environment. 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including compliance, lab operations, and senior management, to ensure seamless operations and compliance with regulations. 

  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to address issues, propose improvements, and align cultivation strategies with organizational goals. 

  • Follow and implement the company’s core values including respect, diversity, sustainability, research, and service. 

  • Adhere to iAnthus' cultural principles of collaboration, innovation, and accountability. 

Team Member Management 

  • Provide leadership and guidance to cultivation team members, setting clear expectations, and fostering a culture of compliance, productivity, and teamwork. 

  • Provide comprehensive training programs to cultivate skills and ensure team members are well-equipped for their roles. 

  • Set clear performance objectives and goals for team members, regularly evaluating their performance and providing constructive feedback. 

  • Oversee and manage the cultivation team, including hiring, training, scheduling, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions when necessary, ensuring alignment with all Human Resources policies and procedures. 

  • Identify areas for improvement and implement development plans to enhance team performance. 

  • Develop and implement training programs to ensure team members are well-versed in cultivation procedures, compliance standards, and equipment operation.  

  • Assign tasks and responsibilities to team members based on skill sets, experience, and workload requirements, ensuring equitable distribution and optimal efficiency. 

  • Foster a culture of motivation, engagement, and accountability among team members, encouraging collaboration and continuous improvement. 

  • Ensure that team members follow company policies, SOPs, safety regulations, and compliance standards, providing guidance and reinforcement as necessary. 

  • Identify opportunities for career advancement or skill enhancement for team members, providing support and encouragement for professional growth. 

  • Provide support and guidance to team members to resolve challenges and obstacles in their roles. 

  • Facilitate effective communication within the team, ensuring clarity in instructions, objectives, and expectations. 

  • Conduct regular safety training sessions and enforce safety measures to prevent accidents or violations.

Qualifications + Education: 

  • Must be twenty-one (21) years of age or older (18 in NY). 

  • Bachelor’s degree in horticulture, agriculture, plant science, botany, or a related field is required.  

  • Must consent to a criminal background check.  

  • Employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of the criminal background check. 

  • A minimum of five years' experience in large-scale commercial, production, nursery or cultivation environment is required.  

  • A minimum of three years’ experience in a leadership/supervisory role is required. 

  • Advanced knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective production and distribution of consumable products. 

  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail to manage supply tracking, quality control, documentation, monitor plant health, identify issues, and implement corrective measures. 

  • Expert knowledge of cannabis cultivation, strains, and growth cycles is highly preferred. 

  • Mastery of techniques and equipment for planting, growing, and harvesting products for consumption, including storage/handling techniques is required. 

  • Deep understanding of environmental factors affecting plant growth, such as light, humidity, and temperature. 

  • Expertise of state-specific cannabis laws and regulatory compliance is non-negotiable. 

  • Ability to work independently or with others, coordinate multiple tasks, and prioritize work effectively. 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, adept at fostering relationships and collaborating seamlessly across all levels of the company and with external partners. 

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are a must. 

  • Capability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, manage high-stress situations, and exhibit flexibility and adaptability when necessary. 

  • Analytical mindset with a keen attention to detail and a focus on process optimization.  

  • High-level competence in utilizing computers and technology, including working with MS Office applications (heavy Excel), and POS applications, BioTrack required. 

  • Effective decision-making skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving. 
     

Working Conditions 

The employee works in either a dispensary and/or cultivation environment. The employee may be required to use a computer, telephone, and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. The position also requires a high level of attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy and efficiency. The employee must be able to work in a fast-faced environment, handling routine and reoccurring tasks. 

The employee will work in environments that include exposure to, but not limited to dirt, fertilizers, dusts, odors, fumes, high heat, low temperature, high and low humidity, high noise levels, vibrations, water, dry salts, allergens, pollen, dust, plant pathogens, other volatile organic compounds, heights, indoor A/C, no A/C, and other environmental variables. 

The position also requires a high level of scheduling flexibility and will occasionally include evening, weekend, and holiday work hours. The employee will encounter frequent interruptions throughout the workday and must have a high regard for self-management, time management, and scheduling of activities. 
 

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to remain in a stationary position 80% of the time, move around, and clearly communicate. The employee must constantly position oneself to move freely. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance. The employee should have the ability to meet the physical demands of lifting, carrying and positioning heavy objects and should be familiar and comfortable using the assistance of push/pull manual transport equipment (ex: pallet jack, hand truck). The employee will often need to use a ladder, with up to a 12’ extension and general hardware tools.  

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
