Position Summary
The Compliance/Risk Specialist position provides administrative support in areas of compliance, quality, security, and occupational health and safety to cultivation, production, processing, extraction, retail, and corporate personnel. The Compliance/Risk Specialist is responsible for designing, implementing, and coordinating on programs related to compliance, quality, security, and occupational health and safety programs. Additionally, the Compliance/Risk Specialist will ensure standards related to quality, security, and occupational health and safety are adhered to by providing training and advisement.

Works closely with local business leaders and staff in cultivation, production, processing, extraction, retail, and corporate departments to ensure compliant, safe and secure working environments, as well as quality and compliant products and services.
Provides administrative support in areas of compliance, quality, security, and occupational health and safety to cultivation, production, processing, extraction, retail, and corporate departments.
Reviews product inventory adjustments and is responsible for reporting to state regulators.
Assists in the drafting of variance requests related to cultivation, processing, and retail.
Designs and implements written policies and procedures related to compliance, quality, security, and occupational health and safety programs, and provides support to other departments developing their own policies and procedures.
Identifies compliance, quality, security, and occupational health and safety training needs and coordinates training programs with local business leaders.
Meets annual compliance, quality, security, and occupational health and safety goals.
Participates in process evaluations, including job hazard analyses, operator training, application proficiency assessments, etc.
Supports departments to implement administrative and engineering controls to minimize security threats and occupational health and safety hazards.
Supports departments in selection of appropriate personal protective equipment.
Maintains local compliance, quality, security, and occupational health and safety document control, and supports other departments in their effort to maintain their own policies and procedures (e.g., videos, regulations, operating manuals, etc.).
Coordinates and proctors training on loss and diversion prevention, and other compliance, quality, security, and occupational health and safety training topics.
Coordinates and conducts compliance, quality, security, and occupational health and safety audits in accordance with Company audit calendar and checklists.
Promotes compliance, quality, security, and occupational health and safety awareness through internal Company memoranda, newsletters, and education initiatives.
Participates in the Company’s local risk management and health and safety committees.
Assists in the implementation of a hazard communication program and preparation of related reports.
Reviews process-operating procedures and records and provides input for compliance, quality, security, and occupational health and safety considerations.
Understands federal and state regulations and standards as they relate to quality, security, and occupational health and safety, and monitors and communicates regulatory changes as they occur.
Provides administrative support to local business leaders and staff to ensure compliance with applicable quality, security, and occupational health and safety regulations and standards.
Advises staff of procedural requirements which must be complied with, ensuring sufficient advance notice is provided so compliance can be achieved.
Assists with audits of practices and records to ensure compliance with Company programs and federal and state regulations and standards.
Monitors and assists with recording and reporting lost-time injuries/illnesses and worker’s compensation claims.
Reviews risk management and safety committee meeting minutes and safety inspection reports and follows up as necessary, specifically as it relates to compliance, quality, security, and occupational health and safety.
Assists with reviews of injury/illness and near-miss incident investigations and follows up as necessary, specifically as it relates to compliance, quality, security, and occupational health and safety.
Participates in developing and conducting compliance, quality, security and occupational health and safety orientation training.
Daily inspection of machinery, equipment, and working conditions to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and safe work practices.
Observes workers to determine appropriate use of prescribed safety equipment, such as glasses, goggles, respirators, and clothing.
Coordinates inspection of specified areas for fire-prevention equipment, first-aid supplies, and other life safety devices.
Assists with testing of working areas for hazard exposures (e.g., noise, toxic, etc.) using associated testing equipment.
Prepares daily report of findings with recommendations for corrective action.
Assists with investigation of accidents per program procedures to establish root cause for use in recommending preventive action.
Coordinates with documenting all accidents, safety violations, security threats, noncompliance issues, and unsafe conditions or behavior.
Assisting in development of standardized job hazard analyses, health and safety management programs, as well as project specific safety plans.
Assists with periodic meetings with workers to instruct them on compliance, quality, and occupational health and safety practices and requirements.
Demonstrates use of equipment and systems and conducts training.
This is a hybrid-remote position with some if not most days at home, performing administrative tasks.
Required Education & Experience
Must be at least 21 years of age
High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred
4 years’ experience performing risk management or compliance, quality, security, or occupational health and safety responsibilities or similar highly responsible work relating to tasks assigned to this position, or any combination of education and experience provided the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying.
Possession of a valid motor vehicle license and willingness to operate motor vehicles in the course of employment.
Any professionally recognized certifications in compliance, security and occupational health and safety related fields.
