Job Summary
The Supervisor, Lab Operations plays a pivotal leadership role within our extraction facility, overseeing day-to-day operations of the lab technician team. This position ensures the adherence to protocols, safety standards, and quality control measures while optimizing extraction processes. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Operations, the Supervisor fosters a collaborative, compliant, and efficient work environment, aligning cross-functional teams to achieve production goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee extraction procedures, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with established protocols.
- Monitor and maintain extraction equipment, troubleshoot issues, and optimize methodologies to maximize yield and product quality.
- Conduct quality control checks on extracted products, ensuring consistency, potency, and purity.
- Maintain accurate records of activities, including batch logs, inventory, and quality control reports.
- Develop and enforce safety and quality assurance procedures to meet regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including cultivation, quality control, and production, to align activities with production goals.
Team Member Management:
- Provide leadership and guidance to the Lab Operations Team, fostering a culture of compliance, productivity, and teamwork.
- Oversee daily activities of lab technicians, assigning tasks, managing workloads, and ensuring adherence to deadlines.
- Train, mentor, and coach team members to enhance their skills and ensure compliance with SOPs and company policies.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to team members in collaboration with the Lab Operations Manager.
- Efficiently allocate resources to optimize productivity and meet team objectives.
Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must be 21 years of age or older (18 in NY).
- Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field preferred (or equivalent education and experience).
- Minimum 2 years of experience in an extraction laboratory setting, preferably in the cannabis industry.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a supervisory role, with a focus on mentoring and coaching teams.
- Advanced closed-loop hydrocarbon extraction and refinement experience.
- Strong understanding of quality control, compliance standards, and cannabis industry regulations.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in oral and written communication.
Working Conditions
- Work in cultivation and/or laboratory environments with exposure to dirt, fertilizers, fumes, extreme temperatures, allergens, and volatile organic compounds.
- Scheduling flexibility required, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs unassisted (up to 100 lbs with assistance).
Physical Requirements
- Frequent movement, lifting, and use of ladders and general hardware tools.
- Ability to meet physical demands of the role, including carrying and positioning heavy objects.
